Parker's UCSF appointment

Well we went to UCSF today for Parker's appointment. We were just going to get a second opinion to see what they thought of this whole genetic disease stuff. The appointment went good. We really like the doctor's they were very helpful and wanted to make sure that everything was fine just like Stanford had decided. They wanted to do some lab work to make sure that Parker's levels for the disease were normal since Stanford had never rechecked his levels since he had been off all medications. Which is why we wanted a second opinion. They also are addressing a new issue that has been bothering me for quite sometime. His height. The first doctor didn't say anything but, they hadn't charted him out on the growth charts. She left and went to talk with her advisor doctor and they both came back in to talk with us. The advisor told us that he didn't think they had his height right because of how small he was so, Parker and I went with the doctor and rechecked and it was right. He is measuring 28 1/4 inches which is about as tall as the average 6-9 month old and he's 15 1/2 months. He checked his hands and chest for any signs of dwarfisms. Which he didn't have the barrell chest or the shorter finger thing so that was good to know. He said that he feels it is something we need to look into since Parker hasn't grown at all in height since we were at Stanford in November and has fallen off the chart drastically. I thought he was doing better when we went to the doctor for his fifteen month appointment but, the measurement was off. He is a full inch shorter than he was at that appointment. So, anyway, they are doing some lab work to find out if his thyroid is functioning properly and some other tests. So, we should know something in the next couple of weeks. They want to see him back in October anyway just to check on the height issue and if there is any problems with the original genetic problem we went in for. But, I still feel like this is a good thing that we are addressing the issue now and if nothing is wrong that will be awesome but, if something is wrong then we can deal with it now versus finding out when something goes wrong. So, I'll keep you all posted on the labs when we get them back.

Hey Katie. Wow, your family has been going through a lot of change over the last 6 months! Keep strong though...I'm sure things will be fine with Parker. Tell your hubby I'm rooting for him in the Academy, and let me know where you guys might end up when he gets out. Keep on keepin' on. Life's a garden...dig it! Geez, gotta love those "Joe Dirt" lines. Take care!
